Expedition CHOLATSE 6423m
Cholatse is a relatively unknown mountain located in the Saragmatha NP. It lies between the valley of the beautiful Gokyo Lakes which gives access to the 6th highest mountain Cho Oyu 8201m, and the valley which leads to the highest mountain on earth being Mount Everest 8848m
As thousands make their way to the top of 6000ers such as Merapeak, Lobuche and Islandpeak, Cholatse knows only a few adventurers who tread its flanks. Since its first ascent in 1982, there have been only 59 foreign climbers on its summit.
officially Cholatse is considered as a “trekking peak” but when you take a closer look at this imposing giant, you are quickly impressed by its icefall, snow mushrooms and airy passages down its flanks. This is a real expedition with its own base camp and fixing team whom will be responsible for placing fixed lines. The expedition members will be in charged of placing the altitude camps. The expedition members should therefore already have experience with alpine terrain and be motivated to further build up experience and knowledge so that they can climb unguided using fixed ropes.
For 6 months we will prepare ourselves individually and in group physically and refresh the necessary knowledge because we will start this expedition as ONE TEAM.

The Cholatse Expedition consists of a 5 days trekking to the Cholatse base camp. From there will be 2 altitude camps placed by the participants. We will climb via the southwestern route, which is relatively the safest commercial route. On the most difficult parts a fixed rope will be placed by the Nepali fixing team. In between, the route will be marked, and participants can move freely or in cordee. The program as described above can change due to the conditions and the weather. This is a High Alpine climb. Participants must be aware of the possible dangers and are not personally guided. Stef and Sofie will join the expedition as support crew.
